My wife and I have been coming on holiday to the Greek islands for the past 20 or so years. In late 2008 we decided to take the plunge and look at buying a holiday home for ourselves and our two young boys.

We chose Corfu for various reasons, amongst which were; the short flight from the UK, the wonderful Corfu Town, and the diverse range of resorts and landscapes that the island has to offer.

We started our search by contacting several estate agents on Corfu, after looking at their Websites to see which properties grabbed our attention. We then flew to Corfu for a week in October 2008, with a busy schedule worked out to allow us to see all of the properties we liked.

All of the estate agents we contacted were very helpful indeed, although we were let down by two that failed to turn up for the appointments. We had a great time driving round the island being taken to the various properties, and we managed to get a really good feel for what our budget would give us.

One of the most helpful was Corfu Home Finders (www.corfuhomefinders.com). Sarah and Susan were a real pleasure to deal with, and we felt that they took time to really understand what we liked and disliked. They introduced us to Val and Steve Robertson, who were kind enough to show us around their guest house that CDC had built for them (see http://www.corfu-design-construction.com/portfolio/robertson-kavadades.asp).

We were immediately taken by the quality of the building and the attention to detail. Val told us how Stamatis went out of his way to accommodate their needs, and how happy she was with the end result. So from this we quickly arranged to meet up with Stamatis and Karen at a plot not far from the Robertson's house that they had for sale. The rest, as they say, is history!

Our experience in dealing with CDC from the initial meetings, planning the layout of the house, throughout the build, and after the house was built has been 100% positive. They guided us though the legal process, helped us setup a bank account, and were there for us at every step of the process.

We were particularly impressed with CDC's ability and willingness to adapt the blueprints to meet our needs. We liked Val and Steve's guest house, but we wanted to make ours a bit more contemporary and with an additional bathroom. Stamatis and the engineer went out of their way to re-arrange the plans, which they did several times until we were happy.

Our grasp of the Greek language is currently very basic to say the least (although we do plan to learn it properly now that we have a house there), so being able to deal with a native English-speaking person was tremendously helpful.

Throughout the build process, Karen would send us regular updates by email, attaching photos as the build progressed. This was very reassuring. It can be quite daunting when you're hundreds of miles away in the UK, and this really helped put our minds at rest. We found Karen to be always willing to help, and she dealt with anything we threw at her in a friendly and efficient manner.

We returned to Corfu in October 2009, when the house was completed – bang on schedule. I can honestly say that the end result was nothing short of astounding! We expected it to be good, after seeing what CDC did for Val and Steve, but the house surpassed our expectations on so many levels.

Karen and Stamatis have continued to be just as helpful now that the house has been finished. There were remarkably few snags to iron out, all of which were pretty minor things like marks on a couple of tiles, and railings that needed re-painting. All of these tasks were attended to promptly and without complaint.

So in conclusion, would we recommend CDC?… The answer is a resounding YES, absolutely and without hesitation!!
